In November 16-17, in Kirovsk, Murmansk region, XII International Mining Conference “Barents-Arctic economic partnership- 2023” took place, devoted to the investment opportunity development in the Arctic region, and to certain partnerships forming up within the mining complex.

Within the framework of the conference, Sergey Lesin, Deputy General Director-Technical Director of OJSC “BELAZ” made a report highlighting the main tendencies for our company’s solutions for import substitution. The BELAZ representative told us in details about the import-independent 220-ton dump truck BELAZ-75304; more than 90% of its components were made on the territory of the Common state. Besides, Mr. Lesin took part in the panel discussion to mark the issues of Russia’s technological sovereignty and the advanced technologies for solid minerals mining and processing in Arctic.

“Reducing the percentage of using imported components, of European manufacturers in particular, afforded not only to reconsider the logistics schemes but also to give a boost to a number of Belarusian production facilities and factories which are now able to replace the foreign components, which beforehand was seen as non feasible. These tendencies, by no means, are the ones that we should safe and grow”, - the BELAZ representative highlighted during his speech.

Another pending issue that is not of a less importance for the mining sector is personnel sovereignty. BELAZ for many years has been doing a lot of work in order to secure that, developing stable partnership with the best technical universities of the Russian Federation. So Mr. Grachou, Deputy General Director for Strategic Development and Corporate Management of OJSC “BELAZ” performed on the stage of an open auditorium in the affiliated branch of Murmansk University in Apatity, and reported on the strategy of our company to cooperate with technical universities for the development of competence of workers from the mining sector.

During the conference the representatives of BELAZ board of directors met with its key partners to discuss topical issues and plans for cooperation in 2024.

On the basis of the results of the plenary meeting the participants, i.e. directors of large-scale mining enterprises, including BELAZ, and representatives of academic circles responded to the journalists’ multiple questions at the press-conference.
