Touch screen, stands, VR-technologies: BELAZ classroom opened at MASU Apatity branch

On May 25, the branch of the Murmansk Arctic State University (MASU) hosted the opening ceremony of the BELAZ training room, which is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for training professional specialists for mining companies that operate BELAZ mining equipment.

The First Deputy Ministry of Industry of Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Ogorodnikov, General Director OJSC “BELAZ” Sergey Nikiforovich, Dmitry Titarenko, Deputy Minister of Arctic and Economic Development of Murmansk Region, Elena Zubritskaya, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Murmansk Region, Olga Ostrovskaya, Director of MASU Apatity branch, representatives of city administration, BELAZ Trading House, mining companies of the region and other distinguished guests took part in the opening ceremony.

- For 5 consecutive years we continue our good tradition – the program for improvement of the mining industry’s technical potential, which is a key strategic task. BELAZ equipment improves, becomes more complicated and respectively we have to give to our students and graduates of university all the competences which includes all these knowledge and new solutions in the vehicle. I’m sure that knowledge they get will be useful for them in their future professional activity.

New specialized auditorium is made for teaching students the specialties “Mining” and “Mining vehicles and equipment”, also for improving skill level of specialists of mining industry of Murmansk region, that operate BELAZ mining equipment.

- The importance of training laboratory for educational process can hardly be overestimated. There are excellent opportunities to learn about new, modern technology. BELAZ is a symbol of power and reliability. Our cooperation is of a strategic nature, it is a very important part of the work required for the long-term and sustainable development of the university. The competencies that students will get during their studies will be in demand by leading mining and processing enterprises of the region and will enable our graduates to be competitive in the labor market, - said Olga Ostrovskaya, Director of MASU Apatity branch.

Room is equipped with four laboratory stands, multifunctional touch screen, program software, scale models of BELAZ dump trucks and all the necessary visual material, making it possible to carry out more than 100 laboratory experiments on such disciplines as Hydromechanics, Hydraulics, Electrical Machines, Electric Drive Control Systems, etc.

The training process in the BELAZ classroom at the MAGU branch will be augmented by next-generation VR technology. The virtual space is as close to reality as possible and provides the opportunity to study parts and components of the truck in detail, as well as to correctly apply the necessary tools and garage equipment for its repair.

- VR allows fully immersing to the training process, testing the dump truck operation in situations close to real-life conditions, simulate extraordinary situations that would be dangerous or too expensive to simulate in real life, such as firefighting emergencies, - noticed during the presentation of the training auditorium Deputy General Director for strategic development and corporate management of BELAZ Alexey Grachov.

Repair of motor-wheel reducer and rear suspension of mining dump truck with payload capacity of 130 tons is already available in VR. In near future the possibility to assembly and disassembly of front suspension cylinders. Similar VR-app was created for hydraulic system and traction electric drive

BELAZ is implementing a large-scale program to build human capacity in the mining industry - this is one of the company's strategic development areas. Over the past few years, similar training classrooms have been opened at the best technical mining universities in the CIS countries. The BELAZ competence centre operates at Russia's oldest mining educational institution, the St Petersburg Mining University. BELAZ classrooms operate in the Kemerovo region at T.F. Gorbachev Kuzbass State Technical University, at the Institute of Mining, Geology and Geotechnology of Siberian Federal University in Krasnoyarsk, at the National Research Technological University MISiS in Moscow, at the Ural State Mining University in Yekaterinburg, and at the NITU MISiS branch in Almalyk (Uzbekistan).
