On November 6, BELAZ held the grand opening of its upgraded Assembly and Test Workshop for Dump Trucks and Recovery Trucks (TsSIAT), which specializes in the production of mining dump trucks with payload capacities ranging from 110 to 240 MT, as well as special-purpose equipment.
- The modernization of BELAZ leading assembly workshop is one of the most important areas of the large investment program for the comprehensive reconstruction and technical re-equipment of the main mining equipment production facility, - noted Sergey Lesin, General Director of BELAZ. – Its capacity will increase production of the most popular 130- and 220-ton dump trucks by 30%.
Along with the growth of the workshop production potential, the technical transformation and optimization of technological processes on BELAZ large assembly line will improve the quality of our products and their competitiveness.
- In the age of digitalization, we are accelerating and automating the processes, implementing the advanced equipment and resource-saving technologies, - said Andrey Kovalev, Deputy General Director - Technical Director. – We have implemented our own monitoring and control information system for TsSIAT assembly line, which enables real-time, efficient quality control and assembly process monitoring, as well as component availability tracking, ensuring uninterrupted processes and optimal line operation.
TsSIAT, which traces its history back to the late 1970s of the last century, began by assembling 75-ton BELAZ dump trucks. As new production challenges emerged, the payload capacity of dump trucks also increased – initially to 110-120 MT, then to 160-180 MT, and with the dawn of the 21st century, to 220-240 MT. Overall, according to statistics, by the year of 2022, over the previous 45 years of the workshop history more than 13,000 units of mining and special-purpose equipment had been assembled and shipped.
To further BELAZ develop and in order to meet the demands for our equipment, a comprehensive reconstruction and refurbishment of the workshop was required. A comprehensive multifaceted project, meticulously designed in 2023, combined the modern construction technologies and innovative digital solutions and was implemented in a very short timeframe, raising the workshop's production efficiency to a fundamentally new level. This is the first such comprehensive reconstruction of this workshop since its foundation, marking a new era in its development.
- The length of the modernized conveyor belt has increased to 130 meters, and it can now accommodate nine dump trucks at a time, rather than six, allowing for more precise designation of the assembly stages, - explained Andrey Kovalev. – The workshop is provided with the comfortable and safe working conditions. The workstations have a present-day appearance and equipment. Computers are installed at each of the nine workstations, allowing for tracking data on the vehicle being assembled, including the dump truck model, chassis number, assembly completion percentage at each position, and other important information.
During the modernization, all overhead cranes, utility systems, communications, and lighting were replaced in the workshop. The size of the exit gates was increased and the exhaust gas removal system was installed during initial machine startup. The loading area was re-equipped with two new stands and new universal transport trolleys. The fueling station was equipped with high-tech equipment for simultaneous refueling with seven types of fuel and lubricants. New systems for the parts and components storage were implemented together with a new transport system between the workshop bays.
Together with General Director Sergey Lesin the opening ceremony was attended by the Heads of the Government Authorities, including Andrey Kuznetsov, the Minister of Industry, Alexander Tsivako, the Head of Zhodino City Executive Committee, and Petr Parkhomchik, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of OJSC “BELAZ” and the Governor of the Brest Region.
BELAZ employees who played an important role in the installation and preparation of the upgraded conveyor for commissioning received the well-deserved awards and incentives from the company's management.
