On October 20, BELAZ was visited by a delegation from the St. Petersburg Mining University of Empress Catherine II. With the participation of guests from Russia's Northern Capital, the company held a seminar on the topic "Modern and promising technologies for the design, production and operation of BELAZ mining equipment."

– Our delegation consists of 40 first- and second-year postgraduate students in a wide range of fields, from economics to mechanical engineering. "We are participating in the XIV Forum of Engineering and Technology Universities of the Union State, currently taking place in Minsk, and were pleased to take advantage of the opportunity to visit BELAZ and enhance our competencies," said Sergey Serzhan, Associate Professor of the Department of Applied Competencies in Digital Technologies at the Mining University, one of the leaders of the Saint Petersburg delegation.

The guests were presented with the museum exposition of the enterprise with a long and glorious history, as well as the production and samples of the world-famous BELAZ mining equipment.

Representatives of Russia's leading university in mining visited the plant's key production sites: they studied the features of technological processes for cutting sheet metal by plasma cutting, machining parts, got acquainted with the conveyor and stack assembly of serial models of BELAZ dump trucks with a payload capacity from 55 to 360 tons, as well as the the operation of the thermo-galvanic shop and paint shop for the production of super-heavy vehicles.

During the seminar, held at our company's research and development center, BELAZ design and development technologies were discussed in the areas of creating innovative equipment using alternative energy sources, unmanned technologies, robotics, digitalization, and technologies for remote monitoring of the technical condition and operating efficiency of mining equipment.

– "We were briefed on the scientific prospects for improving the quality, both design and performance characteristics of existing mining dump trucks. The students gained valuable knowledge and experience in the machinery production at the leading manufacturer of mining equipment," noted Sergey Serzhan. "For our university, collaboration with BELAZ is a strategic partnership, which we are strengthening through joint projects. We hope that our relationship will develop and reach an even higher level. However, we can already say that certain developments have been made in this regard. In particular, we are working on conducting joint strength calculations for dump truck frame designs with the participation of leading faculty from our university and the plant's designers."

BELAZ is the academic partner of the Saint Petersburg Mining University of Empress Catherine II. The BELAZ Competence Center, which contributes to the training of the engineering elite for the mining industry, is successfully operating at this prestigious Russian university. In the framework of the strategic partnership with the world's leading manufacturer of mining equipment, students from Saint Petersburg have a unique opportunity to do internships and practical training in Belarus. Joint educational projects help to develop human resources and strengthen the link between education and engineering.
