In a solemn ceremony on August 7, Olenegorsk, a small mining town in the Murmansk region of Russia, unveiled a monument to the 136-ton dump truck BELAZ, which had worked at the local mine for 12 years.

On a podium at the very entrance to Olenegorsk, miners paid homage to the BELAZ dump trucks that have been transporting iron ore on the Kola Peninsula for decades. It was delivered to the mine in 2011, and has since transported over 6.5 million cubic meters of rock, traveling about 850 thousand kilometers.

Representatives of BELAZ Trade House, its regional dealers, managers of Olenegorsk, employees of the mining and processing plant and residents of the town took part in the solemn opening ceremony of the monument.

According to Ivan Lebedev, Head of Olenegorsk, the initiative of the plant to install a monument to the BELAZ dump truck is very promising fr om the point of view of the city's attractiveness as a tourist destination: "I am sure that the unusual monument will become another attraction and a place of attraction for residents and guests of our city”. Along with the golden deer depicted on the coat of arms of Olenegorsk, the BELAZ dump truck will now become another symbol of the town.

The new location will become a point of attraction and a kind of open-air photo zone, because BELAZ dump trucks leave no one indifferent, amazed by their size and dimensions. Few people have an opportunity to see such machines in everyday life", - emphasized Natalia Kholodulina, Marketing Director of BELAZ Trading House JSC. On behalf of BELAZ General Director Sergey Nikiforovich, she presented the mine's employees with letters of thanks and memorable gifts. Another excellent gift from our company to the people of Olenegorsk was a certificate for the construction of a sports field with BELAZ road simulators.

It should be noted that the tradition of erecting monuments to Belarusian giants in Russia has been going on for many years. Practically everywhere, in every Russian region wh ere open-cast mining is carried out, BELAZs are honored. Even after the end of their working life, some machines continue their career on pedestals and viewing platforms of enterprises, museums and educational institutions.

For example, a monument to BELAZ is a calling card of the city of Zheleznogorsk in the Kursk region. In the mining town of Sibai in Bashkiria, in Lipetsk, in Norilsk in the Krasnoyarsk region, in Buryatia, in Neryungri in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), and in many other places, our dump trucks stand on high pedestals
