News

On October 6, the grand opening of the BELAZ Competence Center took place at the Belarusian National Technical University, one of the country’s largest and oldest higher education institutions, forging engineering talent for our enterprise.

This represents the next step in developing an integrated framework for educating contemporary engineers. On September 1, BELAZ physics and chemistry classes were opened in Zhodino to develop school students’ interest in engineering sciences. The BELAZ Competence Center at the University is the final stage of this system. Zhodino Center for Youth Technical Creativity, a hub for talented and tech-savvy youth, will become the connecting link between them. It will include classrooms and computer labs for 7th to 11th graders to learn drafting, 2D and 3D modeling, as well as workshops equipped with CNC metal-working training equipment. This approach aims to create the future generation of the BELAZ workers, especially engineers.

“BNTU for BELAZ is the reliable partner and one of the key platforms for personnel training. The young people who are studying technical disciplines in our classrooms today will come to us tomorrow as qualified young professionals to create next-generation equipment. My own deep conviction is that the Competence Center will be a place where the engineering elite of our country is shaped, and will be serve as a launchpad for a new breed of engineers, going beyond highly skilled specialists to develop professionals capable of addressing the most sophisticated challenges of modern engineering. Good luck!” – Sergei Lesin, General Director of OJSC "BELAZ", said at the grand opening ceremony of the Center.

Sergei Kharytonchyk, BNTU rector, thanked BELAZ for the accomplished work for establishing of the Competence Center:

“I think this is a very necessary and timely step. BELAZ is a new decisions and cutting-edge technologies, applied in design and production of mining equipment. Today, BELAZ visited our university to share the specific technologies that should be integrated into student training. I am highly satisfied with this cooperation, which strengthens interaction in practice-oriented education. Today, these are the demands of times and a global trend that we are following.”

Two classrooms have been established at the Belarusian National Technical University: "Intelligent Mining Machinery and Systems Engineering" and "Training and Laboratory Complex". The modern equipment in the classrooms will allow students to gain hands-on experience with the functioning of hydraulic and electric drives, electrohydraulics, experimental fluid mechanics, as well as the LiDAR and radars of the BELAZ robotic dump truck. Moreover, they will be able to learn the ins and outs of 3D modeling and design, as well as learn maintenance, virtual assembly, and disassembly of mining truck components in a VR environment.

The BELAZ Competence Center is the new type of educational cluster, where academic science is combined with the real production. Together with the BNTU strong theoretical background, this will enable the training of specialists capable of addressing practical challenges straight out of university. The stands installed in the Center’s classrooms will allow students to carry out dozens of laboratory work, prepare graduation and even candidate projects, apply knowledge to real engineering challenges. For BELAZ this is an investment in those who will shape the future of our enterprise and the entire Belarusian machine-building industry.

Today, BELAZ successfully collaborates with seven leading technical universities in Russia, where host 14 specialized training classrooms and laboratories. They are open in Kemerovo, Yekaterinburg, Krasnoyarsk, Moscow, Gubkin and Apatity. Prior to that day, the BELAZ Competence Center had been based exclusively within one of the oldest universities in Russia – the Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University. The Center at BNTU became the first project of this format in Belarus. The enterprise intends to launch a specialized engineering classroom at the Brest State Technical University.
